A Journey of Self-Discovery in Wedding Photography

If you know anything about me, you know I love art. It’s alive and one piece can bring about so many different emotions. Wedding photography, when done right, the pictures can bring back all of the emotions of that day. It was only natural that I gravitated towards it. I have been a wedding photographer for about 10 years now. At first, it was just as a side hustle, and then it became a little more serious, now it is what I do full time. As it became more and more serious, the question of what was my style was becoming a question I just didn’t have an answer to. My answer was always “I don’t stick to a certain style” or “my style is to adapt” to any situation on a wedding day. Some did not like these answers.

There are many styles when it comes to wedding photography. You have the Traditional Wedding photographer, the Dark and Moody Wedding photographer, the Light and Airy Wedding photographer (which, to be honest, felt more like me with some twist and more), the Editorial Wedding photographer, the Documentary Wedding photographer, and the Fine Art Wedding photographer, Just to name a few. All of those different styles of photography are all great, and will give you great memories of your day. They all have their pros and cons.

As it turns out, my “adaptive” or my “no style” type of style in wedding photography did and does have a name to it. My style of wedding photography is called “Lifestyle.” Yes a “Lifestyle Wedding Photographer.” When you hear the definition of a lifestyle wedding photographer, you will understand how it describe what I’ve been describing to everyone for so many years.

A “Lifestyle Wedding Photographer” is a multiple style photographer. They don’t tend to stay on one style or another. They photograph in different styles at the same time. I kept emphasizing on being “adaptive” because to me I needed to adapt to my couples personalities and create an individual style that reflect and represent them. The “Lifestyle” style of wedding photography is alive, free flowing and not bound to one look. Your wedding day is fluid with multiple layers to it. That is why it is YOUR wedding day.
