Reasons to have a “first look”
As a wedding photographer/videographer of over 8 years located on Long Island NY, I’ve experienced the many phases a couple goes through when they are planning their wedding, and they have a lot of things to consider. One thing that will help them with the day is a timeline. It is a very useful tool to use, not only for you the couple, but it is also very important for anyone involved, especially for the photographer and videographer, that way they have an idea of when and what will be happening throughout your unique day. One of the best ways to ensure you have a smooth and on-time wedding day is to have what can be referred to as a “first look” type of day.
A first look is a modern tradition that involves a one-on-one photo and video session between the bride and groom where they see each other for the first time prior to the ceremony.
Your reaction might be “no way…” and “absolutely not”. “I won’t be missing anything special by going another route.” “I don’t need to do a first look!” Let’s take a look at some reasons, in no particular order, why you should consider it.
Your makeup, flowers, hair, and suit will be fresh
Usually, as the bride is getting ready, there will be a knock on the door and it is the florist delivering your beautiful bride and bridesmaid bouquets and some fresh boutonnieres. In combination with your freshly done hair, makeup, and suit your pictures and video will look wonderful.
Privacy for both bride and groom to show their emotions to each other
Throughout the day, this might be the one and only time you will be able to spend some alone time to see all the emotions of your future bride/groom. After that, all your friends and family will want to join the happiest moment of your life until the end of the reception and more. You can get all of your emotions out, and show your bride how you really feel instead of trying to hide it as your bride is walking down the aisle. It’s great for pictures and videos. You will get to enjoy this moment over and over again.
Save precious time
On first look days, rushing the bride and or groom while getting ready is virtually none existent. There won’t be a need to rush to take pictures of the groomsmen and bridesmaids because that will be done after the first look. Anytime you can save some time during your wedding day, it’s a win. It will help with keeping the day in motion.
Get to enjoy your cocktail hour
How would you feel if I tell you that you can actually enjoy your cocktail hour? I will never forget what one couple said in one of my reviews “thank you for letting me have our cocktail hour…” That will stay with me for a very long time
