Top reasons to have engagement photos taken

As a photographer, getting to know my couples is one of my priorities before the wedding day arrives.  Doing an engagement shoot is a vital part of the journey, not just for me, but more so for the couple.  You may ask yourself questions like, do I really need an engagement session? I’m so busy when will I have time to do one?  The short answer is yes, you should do an engagement session.  Here are some reasons why:

1. Get to know your photographer

Your photographer is not just your photographer during those hours of your wedding, they are the person who will spend the most time with you on that day.  They will be there to capture intimate moments and special details during the most significant day of your life.  During the engagement session, you will get to know more about one another and share stories.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped in to help with a task during the “getting ready”.  It feels great to help!

2. You will get used to having your picture taken

Unless you work in the entertainment field none of us is used to having a camera watching our every move for hours and taking our pictures.  It can be very uncomfortable.  With the engagement session, you will have a chance to get used to being in front of the camera, and when your wedding day comes, both of you will be like professionals.

3. After your engagement session, you will have trust in your wedding photographer that you hired the right person

You are entrusting someone to capture very special moments in your life and you pay a lot of money for that.  Why not see exactly what you pay for before your wedding day comes?  Your engagement pictures will build confidence in you and have 1 less thing to worry about as the day go on.  You know your photographer has it in control.

4. You can use your pictures for wedding purposes

Sometimes you need content to post on your social media and show off your future mate or have a picture to use for your invitations, your wedding websites, and more.  An engagement session will come to the rescue.  You have beautiful professional pictures to use.

5. Your engagement should be celebrated as well

Yes, your big day is your wedding day, but getting engaged is no small task!  The engagement session is the perfect time to capture this moment in your journey.  A short time later you will be married and that moment will be gone forever.  Why not do it while you still can?
